Learning Youth Mental Health First Aid is just as important as physical first aid, particularly if you are a parent, carer, guardian, tutor, teacher, or supporter of a young person aged 12-18. Let me share my story of why I chose to become a Mental Health First Aider.
Please note I discuss anxiety and depression in the video.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid course teaches adult participants how to provide initial support to a young person (aged 12–18) who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.
Participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adolescents, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem and the treatments and supports available. Content is evidence-based and practical.
Topics covered:
Who is suitable?
Adults who complete the course become equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to provide someone with mental health information and support when it matters most.
Ideal for individual adults (aged 18+) who are teachers, parents, carers/supporters of youths aged 12-18 as well as volunteer/community-based groups.
Come as you are, ready to learn.
